Tuesday, 28 October 2025
Synopsis:
Bruce Springsteen's journey crafting his 1982 album Nebraska, which emerged as he recorded Born in the USA with the E Street Band. Based on Warren Zanes' book.
Review: I absolutely loved this – it’s a poignant, honest, and raw story. I liked that Bruce Springsteen chose to show us this side of himself rather than polish everything and make it a glamorous movie. At its heart, it’s about the process of creating your work, the baggage some of us carry, the struggle to find one’s place, and the difficulty of overcoming a troubled childhood. It’s more art cinema than Hollywood, so if you’re expecting glitz and glamour, you won’t find it here.
I enjoyed the Bob Dylan film starring Timothée Chalamet, but I think that one kept the audience at a distance – we never truly got to know Dylan, his process, or where he was coming from and he remained a mystery. Here, however, the story lets you in during a vulnerable period in Springsteen’s life, and I think Jeremy Allen White is outstanding in the role, capturing both Springsteen’s intensity and quiet introspection.. The story isn’t light, and it’s very emotional at times, but I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
