Synopsis: A man joins a game show in which contestants, allowed to go anywhere in the world, are pursued by "hunters" hired to kill them.
Review: I haven’t watched the original, but I went with someone who had, and they told me that “this was better” and “Powell is better than Schwarzenegger in this role.” So I thought I’d pass that along.
From my perspective, I went in without knowing anything about either the book or the original movie, and I really enjoyed it. It’s a fun, action-filled film with some interesting social commentary — and what blew my mind was that the book came out in 1982! That’s way before we had reality TV and this obsession with fickle celebrities, so in that aspect, the story was way ahead of its time.
Are we headed toward a world where people would watch reality TV in which someone is being hunted? Well, given the way things are at the moment, nothing would surprise me! I mean, could people get tired of the usual reality shows and demand something more extreme? I hate reality TV, so I wouldn’t know :)
I definitely recommend it. I think Glen Powell definitely has that star power — like Tom Cruise — and if he keeps going like this and keeps getting hits, we may have a new action star on our hands.
