Diary Entry: The Perfect English Garden

Thursday, 13 November 2025

A beautiful moment from one of my favourite gardens: the Rose Gardens of Sissinghurst. If you love roses (I do!!!) and/or English gardens (like me!), then you have to visit this place. The best time to go is during June or July, when you can really see the roses in their prime.

This photo is from the “Lockdown Years” (does anyone else feel there’s a life before Covid and after Covid? I feel like some chunks are missing. I don’t remember much from those years because not much was happening). I went when there was a limit on how many people could visit, and we all had to keep our social distance (remember that too?!).

Anyway, if I were to look for the positives of those years, this would be one of them. Visiting gardens was actually a lot of fun because they weren’t crowded, and you could really savour each moment and appreciate nature. I wonder if that’s something that could be done regularly—limit the number of visitors so they can truly enjoy the beauty of a garden—or is that too much? Does it bring back bad memories of lockdowns? :)
