Season 2 continues the story of India's 1947 partition, focusing on the massive refugee crisis, the aftermath of independence, and the events leading to Mahatma Gandhi's assassination

Season 1 was phenomenal, so when I saw there was a second season, I had to check it out. It is beautifully shot, and the entire cast and setting are truly world-class. If you, like me, are interested in Indian history, this is definitely worth watching.

The man behind the series, Nikkhil Advani, is also responsible for the equally wonderful historical series Rocket Boys. He has done true justice to the book Freedom at Midnight (1975) by Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre.

I cannot recommend this show enough — it is deeply moving and incredibly thought-provoking.

It took quite some time for Season 3 to drop. I enjoyed it, and although it doesn’t have quite the same fast-paced storyline as the first two seasons, I still think it’s worth checking out. It brings in topics I hadn’t really thought about before, so it’s surprisingly thought-provoking. There will be a Season 4, and I hope we don’t have to wait too long. :)

If you enjoyed the first two seasons, then definitely give this one a watch.

P.S. I didn't like that they changed the opening credits. It was better before! Also I really like the character of 'JK' played by Sharib Hashmi. Everyone needs a JK as a friend!

Sabyasachi Mukherjee Chapter II: India Revival Project for Nilaya feels like stepping into a beautifully remembered story. These wallpapers carry that soulful mix of heritage, nature and old-world romance he does so well.

India Revival

Divine Flame by S. L. Haldankar has long been one of my favourite paintings. There’s such quiet beauty in its simplicity — a woman holding a small oil lamp, her face softly illuminated by its golden glow. Painted in a delicate realist style, it feels both lifelike and spiritual, as though the light itself holds a kind of calm reverence. Nothing feels overdone or staged; it’s just a moment of stillness, perfectly captured. I love how Haldankar manages to turn something so ordinary into something deeply serene and graceful — it’s a reminder that beauty often lives in the simplest of things.

Haldankar painted Divine Flame around 1908–1910, reportedly using his daughter, Gita, as the model. The work, created during Diwali, captures the warm intimacy of the festival’s light. Today, it’s housed in the Jaganmohan Palace Art Gallery in Mysore,India.

Freedom at Midnight (2024 - )

Is the electrifying story of India's struggle for independence. Based on the bestselling book of the same name, it recounts the partition of India and Pakistan, and the religious and socio-political dynamics of the era.

Review: I watched 'Rocket Boys' by SonyLiv and went on their website to see what else they had done and when I saw this series (based on the excellent book of the same name. That book was also the source material for 'Gandhi' starring Ben Kingsley ) I had to get a subscription. It is beautifully shot, extremely well acted and cast and it is thought provoking and also very tough to watch at times as it shows the communal riots and what happens when politicians use the masses for violence to get what they want. I highly recommend it if you like history, movies based on historical facts and period dramas.

I just read that there will be a second series out soon. I cannot recommend this enough.

The misadventures of two young brides who get lost from the same train. From mistaken identities to laugh-out-aloud escapades, the ensuing chaos guarantees laughter galore and heartwarming moments.

A surprise find on Netflix! This thought-provoking film is an uplifting and feel-good story about two young brides and their futures. I really enjoyed it and particularly loved the setting in a simple Indian village. I highly recommend this movie; it's a story with a lot of heart.

British retirees travel to India to take up residence in what they believe is a newly restored hotel. Less luxurious than advertised, the Marigold Hotel nevertheless slowly begins to charm in unexpected ways.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. The film was both funny and heartwarming, with a brilliant cast. While there were some poignant moments, I left the cinema feeling cheerful and inspired—so much so that I was tempted to book the next flight to India!
